    How It All Started

Homeschool Moms Create 2nd Incomes as Grant VAs

Did you know that “homeschool moms” are putting their families 1st by creating 2nd incomes as Grant VAs? Here’s how it all started…

“You don’t have to learn all this ‘funder research’ stuff if you don’t want to,” Rhea blurted as she hurried to the front of the conference room. There was a collective sigh of relief by all the nonprofit leaders in attendance.

“There’s another option. You could hire a VA to do it for you.”

“What’s a VA?” they asked in unison.

“A VA is a ‘virtual assistant’ who works remotely as an independent contractor providing valuable administrative help like scheduling appointments, arranging travel, data entry, sharing documents in the cloud. A VA could easily do ‘funder research’ for you, even help you write grant proposals.”

“I want a VA,” said one attendee. “Me, too!” shouted another. Everyone’s hand in the room shot up – I mean everyone’s!

On the spot, everyone wanted to hire a VA to do the work for them! That’s the good news.

The bad news is that we did not have enough VAs. That’s why we need you!

As a homeschool mom, you’d make a great VA, too!

    How do we know that?

Here are 10 reasons homeschool moms make great VAs:

    Moms know how to streamline.
    Moms can research!
    Moms can organize!
    Moms are time management ninjas.
    Moms are innovative and creative.
    Moms work hard.
Moms know how to communicate clearly.
Moms are like hostage negotiators and know how to reconcile differences.
    Moms have a long-term vision.
    Moms understand financial management.

What this all means is as a homeschool mom, you have exactly what many business leaders want, especially when it’s hard to find qualified workers.

What homeschool moms DO NOT possess are skills that we at the Grants Academy have been teaching online since 1997, 14 years before Zoom was founded!

In the Grants Academy’s “Grant” VA Program, homeschool moms learn how to be a VA as well as learn grant skills to help charities in your state. You’ll be on a path to a fulfilling career without a college degree.

    That’s right! No degree required!

If we look at high-paying careers “without a degree,” most require you to “leave your home.” As a Grant VA, you can work as many or as few hours as you want… all from the privacy of your own home!

Lots of people get started in the Grant Profession purely by accident. Now, they are making over $70,000 dollars a year full-time.

We’ve also learned a lot from the COVID pandemic about “working from home” like:

Workers proved they can work from home and be trusted!
    Productivity has gone up!
Everyone is familiar with virtual technology like Zoom.
We’ve learned that everyone deserves “dignity” at work, as well as “decent wages,” “safe conditions to work in,” and “opportunities to grow on the job.”
Flexible scheduling to learn and work can be very liberating.

Enroll today, and the Grants Academy’s Grant VA Program will help you:

    Put your family 1st with a 2nd income working from home;
Keep a flexible learning and work schedule,
We assign you your own Grant VA as a learning buddy, and
You receive a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back!

“This Grant VA Program opened the door to meaningful and profitable employment,” says Janet Cushman, a homeschool mom who is now working from her home in Connecticut after she was trained as a Grant VA. “The Grant VA program enabled me to be flexible enough to still put my family first. I had my first client before I even finished the class!”

What is really exciting is that there are more than 800 “homeschool” nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that can use your help as a Grant VA! Less than 1% of them know how to get grants. You can show them how!

This is the perfect chance for you to “learn-and-earn” by helping “homeschool” nonprofit organizations in your state like…

    Co-ops
    State Associations
    Arts and sports organizations
    Libraries, and
    Resource centers

Remember… you don’t need a degree! And, remember, you’ll get all the “specialized” training you need in the Grant VA Program!
Learn in as few as 2 weeks, not 2 semesters, not 2 years. The Grants Academy has condensed 40 years of experience into a concise and specialized video training that teaches you everything you need to know.

Don’t wait! Put your family 1st with a 2nd career! Enroll in the Grant VA Program today!

What Will I Learn in the Grant VA Online Class? From whom?

There are over 100,000 grant-makers (private and public) in the U.S. Over the years, experts have discovered that most funders want to see similar elements in proposals they fund: 1) summary, 2) agency introduction, 3) need/problem statement, 4) outcomes/objectives, 5) project methods or design, 6) project evaluation in reaching outcomes/goals, 7) future funding after the grant is gone, and 8) an itemized budget. Interestingly, the Federal government also recommends these as the eight basic components to creating solid federal grant proposals.

“Yours is a good example of what I need in a grant. Would you mind if I shared the grant proposal you prepared for Charles Schwab Bank with organizations that are applying for grant funding?”
--Nancy E. Brown, Senior Manager, Charles Schwab Bank

Attendees will have a chance to critique and rate 2 sample proposals using our custom-made Evaluation Form using the 8 key proposal elements being taught. All of this is designed to help you be comfortable with the format before you ever write a word. You gain confidence along the way!

You will learn directly from Phil Johncock, MA, MMs, Grant Professional Certified, with a 96% success rate and having taught thousands. Phil is also an Approved Trainer with the Grant Professionals Association (GPA).

You will learn through a variety of proven online learning techniques including:

    Study questions and discussion
    Mock reviews of sample proposals
    Crafting your own mock proposals
Peer reviews of other attendees’ proposals as well as your own

"...a great help if you are just starting out or if you have written grants before. Evaluating other students' mock proposals is a very good method of seeing examples of what to do and what not to do. I didn't think about having peers also reviewing the draft proposal. I do better on a project when I am not rushed at the end."
--Kristine Weeks, North Las Vegas, NV

Why Is It Called “Grant VA”?

When our first course was approved and offered in 2001 by the University and Community College System of Nevada for 2 college credits (30 hours of instruction), it was called “Grant 101” or “GRNT 101.” In 2007, the Grant Professional Certification Institute (GPCI) began offering the GPC exam as an independently administered assessment of skills needed by a “generalist grant professional.” So, the course was renamed “Grant Professional 101.” In 2021, a Grant VA version was designed with a hybrid module training by video online along with supplemental textbooks plus an accountability partner for ongoing support with a specific focus on Grant VAs.

On What Standards, If Any, Is the Grant VA Class Based?

Unlike most semester-long classes, in as few as two weeks, the Grant VA online class introduces you to all nine validated competencies developed by the accredited Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI) that is part of the Grant Professional Certificate (GPC) exam:

Competency 03 - Knowledge of strategies for effective program and project design and development (20%)

How Can I Become Grant Professional Certified (GPC)?

Grant VA prepares you by introducing you to the nine core GPCI competencies needed to pass your GPC exam and gain your GPC credential. The GPC exam is offered independently through the Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI).

To be eligible to take the GPC exam, you must have completed at least 5 successful grant proposals over the past 7 years. You also must have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in the grants field within the past 5-7 years. Eligibility is based on education, professional experience, professional practices and community involvement.

Graduates of the Grant VA class are encouraged to study for and take the GPC exam as soon as they are eligible. To help prepare, graduates are invited to take the Grants Academy’s advanced GPC Exam Prep class online when they are eligible and ready to take the GPC Exam!

Is the Grant Professional Certified (GPC) Credential Accredited?

    Yes, it is!

According to GPCI, "On May 31, 2019, the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) granted accreditation to the Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI) and the GPC credential for demonstrating compliance with the NCCA Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs. The GPC is the first professional credential for individuals working in the grants field to be recognized by NCCA. The GPC credential, which has been in use since 2007, is the only experienced-based exam of its kind."
